So i purchased new stuff for my comp. I got the Asus p5Q deluxe Motherboard. and ive been having problems with it. It all started when i installed the audio drivers. The computer would freeze whenever sound played. So i figured it was because my drivers were out of date or corrupted. Turned out that wasnt the problem. All that is fine and up to date. So i sent it in to the shop, and the guy there ends up plugging it in, and playing call of duty 4 for 3 hours perfectly fine no freezing or anything. So i say great he must have fixed whatever it was. I go to plug my stuff in, and turn it on, immediately it freezes when i go to lookup a youtube vid...(Note it either freezes or blue screens) Boo in a fucking half. I have a logitech keyboard and a razor diamond back mouse. Something with those two things is messing with the motherboard. Something isnt compatiple. That is the only answer i can think of, the guy told me he used basic mouse and keyboard, so my stuff is conflicting. Problem is i dont know why its conflicting or how i can fix it. I Found this site which gave a little light but i cant read nerd speak so someone will have to translate. http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&id=20080701022733828&board_id=1&model=P5Q&page=1&count=51Ive spent 600$ on a comp that only works when the sound is uninstalled due to a conflict with mouse and keyboard. Yes i know that combination of a fuckup makes about as much sense as a lemur monkey teaching mathematics to pygmy children in the antarctic. But thats what we got. Lets figure this out shall we. We got to get this thing burning and turning like it oughta. Merrick

I know it sounds daft and simple, but have you actually tried another keyboard and mouse?

I had another keyboard and another mouse, but the same issue seemed to happen. Someone just mentioned that i should reinstall the keyboard driver.
Could it be possible im plugging them into the wrong usb ports?

Possible solutions:
1. P5Q have the option of High Def audio and analog legacy audio. If there is a conflict, usually best to use analog
2. If you use external sound card, you need to disable onboard sound obviously
3. Motherboard drivers are always installed first before all others, doing it the other way round will cause conflicts even if they are the right ones
4. If I am reading your post correctly, the fact that it freezes immediately suggest they can't even communicate i.e. you have used either a 64bit driver on a 32bit OS or the other way round
5. Corrupt registry due to virus, malware or if you have already reinstall OS, then boot sector stealth root-kit - root-kit cannot be kill by anti-virus and needs specialist software
6. Most drastic and should not be attempted unless you are technical - They sold you an old revision board thats been sitting in the warehouse for years and the bios needs to be updated. P5Q does have backup bios recovery but do remember this is the last option.

Those are all nice suggestions but are useless Ocean, if we don't know what kind of system Merrick has(hardware and OS)?

Well, we know MB is P5Q deluxe so its socket 775 and not icore 5 or 7 problems
ram and voltage is not important as Merrick doesn't overclock, even if he did not configure dual channel properly, he will only suffer slower mem performance not freeze
we know its a logitech keyboard
we know its a razor diamondback mouse
we know the OS is gonna be Windows XP or Vista as Win7 is not out yet (Merrick will not be the 1% of user with Linux or Unix) so the bit about 64bit driver for 32bit OS already covers that.
sound card we covered by disabling onboard sound and use legacy analog audio and we know Merrick have the latest driver
The tech guy said he plays it fine for upto 4hrs with normal keyboard and mouse. SO unless he's lying, it can't be graphics card or PSU.
hmmm.. what other spec do you need Aquila?

Ladies and gentlemen, I think I just got pwned by Ocean. I think number 3 is the culprit. if Merrick is replacing his old motherboard with the new Asus one. He might want to backup his stuff and try reinstalling the OS.

Thank you for answering guys, i stalled on my reply because my internet decided to die. Got it back up today, and hopefully itl last this time.
I did install the motherboard drivers firstly, but i uninstalled the audio one later on.
I dont know the difference between high def or analog or how to turn one or the other off. But that sounds like an interesting fix.
I might just have to do a soundcard thing just to bypass whatever bull its tripping over. Cause i dont want to have to purchase a new mouse/keyboard do fix all this.
As far as the backupbackup Plan F's i couldnt even figure out how to reformat, i never was given the option to boot from cd or recover anything. So wiping and starting over is more problematic cause i simply cant figure out how to do it through asus menus. (Note ive reformatted my other comp maybe 15 times total, so i know how to reformat, i simply cant figure asus out) im sure its easy. But yes last resort.

Well if you want to try addin a new soundcard. You have to disable the on board sound first, to do that -> you want to find device manager, if you have vista, just search Device Manager in the Start search but if you have xp, just go to control panel and find device manager.
-> Then click on Sound, all the sound devices that are installed should show up. Then just disable the one that is onboard sound and install your new Sound card.
Hopefully that will end your misery. Good Luck.
